Thank you to Families - Parent Society Fundraising

The JCS community would like to thank the dedicated team of parents who offered their time and energy in support of the JCS Parent Society Fall Casino Fundraiser.  As a result, the Parent Society was able to raise an impressive $89,637.25 that will be used to support school initiatives and resources here at JCS.

As a fundraiser, the casino is the largest contributor to the Parent Society’s portfolio and equates to approximately $1200 for every volunteer’s 8-hour commitment which is phenomenal and appreciated so very much!

In the past year the Parent Society has contributed funds to support a large number of school projects including:

  • Additional literary resources for the Learning Commons ($3000)
  • Airway trainers and stretchers for our First Responder Course ($6000)
  • An athletic training bed for our Sports Medicine Course ($400)
  • Tabletop easels for our Visual Arts Program ($720)
  • Choral risers for our Performing Arts Program ($1600)
  • A refrigerator to support our Food Availability Program ($1000)
  • Twelve trinocular microscopes for our Science Program ($16500)
  • Football helmets to support our Athletics Program ($4200)
  • Replacement home jerseys for our Boys Basketball Teams ($8960)
  • Step over bags to support our contact athletic teams ($900)
  • Monitor upgrades to support our Computer Science/Robotics Courses ($5325)

In the coming months the Parent Society will be reviewing other worthwhile projects to support within the school community and is always looking for more parent volunteers to join in this work. The next Parent Council and Parent Society Meeting is scheduled for March 19 at 7:00 pm.  All are welcome.

2026-27 Course Requests and 2026 Graduation Checks

During Raven Time P2 on Thursday February 19, 2026, all current Grade 10 and 11 JCS students began completing course requests for the 2026-27 school year. Current Grade 12 JCS students completed graduation checks to ensure they meet Graduation 2026 requirements. Both processes were supported with detailed instructions provided by the Student Success Centre utilizing Detailed Academic Reports (DARs) which were provided in Raven Time by Period 2 teachers. Students on Period 2 spares were provided these documents in the lower hub. Please ensure you review your students' requests and/or grad checks.

 Returning Grade 12 Applications

Grade 12 students who are unable to Graduate with a High School Diploma or obtain a Certificate of Completion by the end of the 2025-26 School Year are welcome to apply to return for an additional year of high school. Students need to speak with their student advisors and assistant principals to discuss the application process. Further information regarding this process can be found on Fourth Years of High School administrative regulation 6093.

 Pink Shirt Day

Course Change Requests for in-person classes at JCS:

Student Advisors have been busy working on the many requests for course changes. Semester two course change requests for all in-person courses at JCS have been processed as of this week.

If you did not see a course dropped from your schedule, it is likely because the course you wanted to drop is required for graduation.

If you did not see a course added to your schedule, it is likely that we did not have capacity in the course that was requested.

Online Course Requests for Second Semester

If you are still looking to enroll your student in an online course for Semester 2, you can find many online high school jurisdictions at: https://www.alberta.ca/online-learning

Availability of online courses varies significantly from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and cannot be guaranteed. In person courses that are required for graduation will still be offered in-person here at JCS.
