End of Semester 1

The last day of regularly scheduled classes for Semester 1 is January 23, 2026. This will be the last day of teaching and learning for students. In preparation for teachers to begin working on report card marks and comments, final marks will be turned off for viewing in PowerSchool on Wednesday January 21, 2026 at 8:00 am. Please ensure you check grades before this time. Semester 1 grades and report cards will not be printed, but will be viewable on February 2, 2026. Parents are encouraged to check MyCBE at this time.

More information pertaining to credit recovery on January 26 – 27, 2026 will come in a stand-alone communication next week.

The first day of Semester 2 is Wednesday January 28, 2026. Please remember that student’s timetables can change up until the start of the semester.

April Diploma Exam Requests

April Diploma Exam requests are now open. These exams are for students who completed a diploma course (30-level) in Summer 2025 or earlier and need to re-write the exam, or did not write the exam at the time they completed the course. Parents, if your student needs to write in April, please have them email assistant principal Rob Brown (rabrown@cbe.ab.ca) with their full name, Alberta Student Number (ASN), and the diploma course they completed (e.g. Mathematics 30-1) and when they completed it.

January Diploma Exams are still canceled for students currently taking diploma courses this semester.

YMCA and JCS Parking

The Brookfield Residential YMCA and JCS Administration kindly remind JCS parents, guardians, and students that the parking lot in front of the YMCA daycare off 45 Street SE is reserved for daycare drop off and pickup only. It is growing increasingly difficult for daycare parents to find parking while dropping off or picking up their little ones.

The north curb of Seton Drive SE westbound between 45 Street SE and the student parking lot is also a restricted zone between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday to Friday. There is no parking or stopping except for Calgary Transit or school busses during that time.

Calgary bylaw officers and Calgary Parking Authority have informed JCS they will be on site periodically in the coming months to address both areas as they become increasingly problematic. Tickets will be issued to unauthorized vehicles stopping in either area and parked vehicles may be towed.

YMCA Upcoming Events and Volunteer Opportunities

The Brookfield Residential YMCA (4995 Market St SE) is hosting the following events:

Coffee with a Cop | Tuesday January 20 at 11:00 am – 2:00 pm

Location | The Family Center inside the YMCA

This is an opportunity for the general public to meet Calgary Police Services (CPS) officers for coffee and a conversation.

Cocoa with a Cop for Youth and their parents | Friday January 30 at 1:30 – 3:30 pm

Location | The Family Center inside the YMCA

This event will be attended by the CPS Youth Mentorship Team, Community School Resource Officers, the Youth Advisory Board to meet youth from the area. It is open to youth (under 18) an their parents. Snacks and Hot Chocolate will be served

Check www.ymcacalgary.org for available volunteering positions. Most positions are for ages 16+.

Walking Distance Field Trips

The CBE has streamlined the process for field trips within walking distance of schools. Trips within walking distance without restricted activities such as swimming will not require forms to go home for signatures. Please see the Off-Site Activities page on the JCS Website for more information.

Yearbook Ordering

All yearbooks need to be preordered by families requiring one. The 2025-2026 yearbooks are still on sale until February 14 for $50.00. Families can order their yearbooks here: https://jostensyearbooks.com/?REF=A02182920 Don’t be disappointed and order yours now.

Learning Commons   

Novel studies and textbooks must be returned to the 3rd floor Learning Commons by January 23. Any library books that have been signed out and not returned will be added to PowerSchool as a lost/late overdue book charge.

Please check PowerSchool for late or lost book charges. Charges will be removed once the books have been returned.

School Fees

JCS School fees for Semester 1 are still available to view and pay. Parents, please login to MyCBE to view and pay your students’ school fees from JCS. The CBE offers many flexible payment options, including instructions for finding and paying fees. Any parents who are unable to pay school fees should visit the CBE’s central fee waiver webpage for more information on applying for a fee waiver.

Student Success Centre

Semester 2 timetables are subject to change until the beginning of the semester. The Semester 2 Course Change Request form and Online Course Request forms closed on Friday January 9. Student advisors will do their best to communicate with students about changes. If any requests were not possible, student advisors will reach out to students directly. If you have any questions, please email your student’s advisor or assistant principal. Emails can be found on the Our Staff page of the JCS Website.

Craven Café

Thursday January 15th, 2026 was the last day of service for Semester 1. Please plan to have your student bring lunch or make alternate arrangements. Craven Café will resume service for second semester by Wednesday February 11th, 2026.
