Continued Focus on Learning

We were very happy to welcome all JCS students back to Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School on Wednesday October 29, 2025.

Our top priority throughout the coming weeks is continued focus on learning activities linked to key curricular outcomes to ensure continued success for students for the remainder of first semester and transitions into second semester and beyond.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together to support students and teachers with their return to daily school routines. We know there are more questions about when other activities will restart. It will take some time to restore normal activities and events. Please continue to check the CBE Website for updates regarding these items.

Fall Break

Fall break (November 10-12) will proceed as scheduled. After careful consideration, it was decided that changing the school calendar at this time would impact staffing, transportation, as well as family plans already in place. If other adjustments to the school calendar are necessary, staff and families will be notified as early as possible.

Athletics

To ensure a safe and well-prepared return to athletic competition, a paced re-entry plan for senior high school athletics will be implemented. Next week (November 3-7) will be dedicated exclusively to practices, allowing coaches, athletes and teams the necessary time to re-establish conditioning, skills, and overall game readiness. Starting in mid-November, high school athletics will return to competition, providing opportunities for teams to prepare for upcoming city and provincial championships. Specific details will be communicated home once they are made available.

Diploma Exams

Today (Friday October 31), the Alberta government announced that January diploma exams are cancelled. Students may opt to write January diploma exams in April or June 2026, on a voluntary basis.
To ensure students and teachers can concentrate on learning after lost instructional time due to the teacher strike, Alberta's government has cancelled the January 2026 diploma examinations.
More information will be provided to students and families next week.

Photo Retakes

Photo retakes are on November 27 at JCS in the conference room from 9:00am-3:30pm. We will call students down to the main office by grade and alphabet during the day for photos if they require photos or haven’t had their photos taken yet. To order photos, please follow the directions on the back of the ID card.

Student Success Centre

Upcoming Post Secondary Presentations and Events

The Out of Province Post Secondary Fair will take place in the Upper Hub outside the Main Office on Wednesday November 19, from 9:00 – 10:30am. This opportunity will allow your student to ask institutions questions regarding admission requirements for specific programs.
