Health Plans for Students
If your child has a critical health condition, or if a critical health condition changes or develops, please inform the school so that we can work with you to create a health plan. It is the responsibility of families to keep the school informed so that we can support each student.
School Communications – School Messenger
Families are encouraged to opt in to receiving commercial messages from the school to ensure they are staying fully informed. To receive all school messages families must grant permission through the School Communications CBE website. Please follow the link to find out more information and sign up.
Attendance Reporting
Families contacting the school to report student absence are reminded to email JoaneCardinalSchubert@cbe.ab.ca to report an absence. Please ensure you include the student name, your name, reason, and the time and dates of the absence.
Parents may also phone the school instead at (403) 817-3600 and then Dial 1 for the attendance line. Please ensure you include the same information detailed above when phoning in.
School Council
The next School Council meeting is at 7:00pm, Thursday, September 25 in the main hub.
Thank you for all the hard work and dedication of our outgoing School Council from the 20-24-25 school year. You helped create countless valuable learning opportunities through your fundraising, community activism, and countless volunteer hours throughout the year.
Please welcome our 2025-26 School Council that was elected at our School Council AGM on June 7, 2025.
Chair: Heather Johnson
Vice Chair: Kyle Bullock
Secretary: Andrea Thomas
Key Communicator: Kirsten Brown
Our Parent Society for the 2025-26 school year, which works closely with School Council to allocate funds raised, was elected at the AGM on June 7, 2025.
President: Heather Johnson
Vice-President: Kyle Bullock
Secretary: Andrea Thomas
Treasurer: Heather Hannah
Casino Coordinator: Shannon McMaster
Directors at Large: Wendy Nilson and Leigha McNelly
The JCS Casino is on October 11 & 12. This is a major source of funds for our School Council to support learning at Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School. Casinos are not possible without additional parent volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering and have not yet signed up, please do so on the sign up page.
Student Drop-off and Pick-up
Drop off and pick up are busy times around Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School. Our community partner, the Seton YMCA has a daycare at the front of their building directly across from JCS. Parents with small children need to park near the entrance to get their little ones to daycare safely. We kindly ask parents to utilize the student parking lot on the Southeast corner of the school, or the Northeastern-most section of Seton Dr SE for pickup and drop off. Please do not pick up or drop off your students in the bus zones on Seton Dr. SE, along 45 St SE, the Northwest JCS staff parking lot, or the YMCA parking lots. This helps keep all our students and community members safe at these busy times. We appreciate your support with this.
CALM Online
For most JCS students, CALM is delivered online. If your student has CALM in their PowerSchool timetable in either Term 1 (T1) or Term 2 (T2), they should already be enrolled in a Brightspace D2L Shell. They will also have received an email from their teacher (Ms. Gilbertson, Ms. Taylor, or Ms. Wood). Please ensure your student is checking their @educbe email, as that is how the school communicates important information to them.
The Term 1 CALM D2L shell will open on Friday September 19, 2025
The Term 2 CALM D2L shell will open on Friday October 17, 2025
Lockers (Updated)
Students requested lockers via an online form or through their Period 1 teachers. Any students who were unable to request a locker are asked to see the Main Office to request one. Locker assignments and lock combinations will be provided to Period 1 teachers late next week for their students. Students with a Period 1 spare will receive an email when their locker assignments are ready and may visit the Main Office to get their assigned locker.
School Fees
Where can I find fees associated with courses?
Your child’s school fees can be viewed and paid through the myCBE PowerSchool Portal,
What if I Can't Afford to Pay School Fees?
If you are unable to pay school fees, please access this CBE What if I Can't Afford to Pay School Fees? document for further information.
Please call the school at 403-817-3600 Ext 2007 if you have further questions.
Student Parking Passes (Updated)
Due to ongoing construction in the parking lot, parking passes will not be required until after September 26, 2025. Students who have not yet requested a parking pass need to check in at the Main Office to request one.
Parent permission is required for students to receive a parking pass. Parents of students who have already requested a pass received an email on September 12, 2025 with a link to a form to fill out authorizing the pass.
The form will require vehicle information that the pass will be attached to. By filling out and submitting this form, parents are authorizing the parking pass to be charged to their PowerSchool account.
The parking fee appearing in the MYCBE account is confirmation that they will receive a pass. Once the online payment is complete, students will be issued a parking pass through the Main Office. Students will also need to sign the parking pass agreement to receive their pass. Parking fees include GST, and are as follows:
· Full Year (Sept to June) $50
· Semester One (Sept to Jan) $25
· Semester Two (Feb to June) $25
Grade 11 & 12 students have priority for purchasing a JCS parking pass.
