JCS Drama Department

The JCS Drama Department has TWO upcoming productions. First up on Thursday, April 17 at 7:00pm at the Seton YMCA Theatre is our Studio Showcase, “Toes, Tracks, Toppings and The Truth Within”.  This is a collection of student written and directed pieces that. This show has everything... Big Foot, a pizza delivery guy with a crush, a train headed to the bad place and the struggle with being kind to oneself. The students have such creative ideas and it’s great getting to see them come to life in this show!

Next on Thursday, April 24 and Friday, April 25 at 7:00pm at the Seton YMCA Theatre is our mainstage production “8 Minutes Left” by E.B. Lee. This show is a heartfelt dramady which examines the idea of what you would do if you knew the world was ending. It is a character driven vignette play that focuses on human connection and who we turn to in crisis. The students have been working really hard developing these relationships and are excited for everyone to see it.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and can be purchased in the Drama Room (1811) or at the door on the night of the performances with cash. Tickets can also be purchased at the main office with debit or credit (cannot purchase these the night of), students need to bring Ms. Taylor the receipts to pick up their tickets. We hope to see you there!

PISA Assessments

The Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is an international study conducted by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to assess 15-year-old students' skills and knowledge in reading, mathematics, and science. Canada participates in PISA, and the results are used to compare Canadian students' performance to that of students in other countries. The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) oversees the completion of PISA across the country.

Each high school in the CBE will have up to 42 randomly selected students participate in the PISA Assessment. Families will be notified once dates are finalized by CMEC. The assessments will be completed sometime between April 21 through May 30, 2025. It is completed digitally on computers and takes less than half a day. Students will be excused from their classes and the results will not impact their grades at Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School.

If you have any questions, please contact Assistant Principal Peter Zajiczek via email.

Returning Grade 12 Students

Alberta Post-Secondary Options Program (APOP)

  • Who:     All JCS students have access to APOP!
  • What:   APOP is a pilot project that aims to support high school students, especially those in grade 12, in Alberta as they prepare for their life after high school.
  • Where: Students create their APOP account at www.myapop.ca
  • Why:     APOP provides students with personalized information about postsecondary options and helps students to make decisions about where to go, what to study, and how to cover the costs. Using videos and interactive activities, APOP helps find postsecondary programs that students could get into, make a budget, and estimate how much individuals could receive in grants and loans from Alberta Student Aid.
