Graduation Lists & Ceremony Tickets
Didn’t pick up your grad ceremony tickets or didn’t get on the grad list on time to get your tickets. The next opportunity to get your tickets is April 23 at 3:35pm outside the main office. Each student on the grad list can get 4 tickets for the graduation ceremony.
The grad list will be updated and posted outside the main office on April 22. In order to be on the grad list, students must:
- be on track to graduate (registered in all courses necessary for graduation). Here is a link to the requirements for a High School Diploma or Certificate of School Completion. Students who have questions about their requirements should make an appointment with their Student Advisor.
- be a student in good standing
- have paid the $57 graduation fee (can be paid through PowerSchool)
- Have completed the “Are You Ready to Graduate?” form
Graduation Banquet tickets will go on sale the week of April 22. More information to follow.
Graduation Baby Photos
If you would like your baby photo to be shown at the grad banquet in a slide show, here is the information about how to submit.
- Find a baby photo and an appropriate current photo of you - This can be your grad photo (please let us know if you want us to use the one on file)
- Change the name of the files to your FULL NAME and which photo it is (example: Last name, first name - baby photo)
- Send your pictures to jcsbabyphotos@gmail.com with your FULL NAME in the subject line
- Photos must be submitted by April 22 to be in the slide show

Information from the Student Success Centre
Every student at JCS is enrolled in the Student Success Centre (SSC) D2L shell. Lots of valuable information will be posted there. Students are encouraged to log in and keep up to date with the available information regarding post-secondary applications, university open houses and scholarships. Students should also review the monthly calendar where various upcoming post-secondary events will be posted.
Summer School 2024
Summer School registration is now open! Students can access a link on the Student Success Centre D2L where they will fill out a Microsoft form requesting their summer school course. The link will be open from April 18 to May 2. All the pertinent information regarding what classes are being offered and in which location is outlined on the form. Summer School will run from July 2 – 25, 2024. Students may take a maximum of one course either online or in-person.
EducationMatters’ 2023/2024 student award applications are now live.
Students are encouraged to sign up for one of the upcoming student award information sessions (Student Award Info Sessions - EducationMatters)
Students should apply for all awards through the online portal (https://applications.educationmatters.ca).
Y Mind is a FREE 7-week mental wellness program for teenagers (13-18 years old). The program aims to support and provide resources for teenagers experiencing mild to moderate levels of stress and/or anxiety. This program is facilitated by trained mental health professionals and there will be two facilitators at each session. There have been proven results nationally of reduced stress and anxiety related symptoms, increased overall wellbeing, and an increased ability to cope with difficult emotions. Individuals can learn more about the program on the website or complete a Formstack request to sign up for information and Intake Sessions. Interested individuals can also contact the general Y Mind email with any questions (ymind@ymcacalgary.org).
JCS Celebrations
Calgary Youth Science Fair
Congrats to the JCS Calgary Youth Science Fair team! The event took place at the U of C on April 12 and April 13. Amongst the thousands of projects, grade 10 JCS student D., earned Gold for their research & innovation. D. was also awarded the Nutrien Physical Science Award and The Top- Intermediate award. In addition, D. won the prestigious " University of Calgary Chancellor & Senate award" - which is given to the top project out of the entire fair. D. has earned over $3000 worth of prize money and has been recruited to be part of Team Calgary to represent at the Canada Wide Science Fair in Ottawa. Congrats D.!
UBC Scholarship Winner
Congrats to A. for earning an $80,000 Scholarship to UBC. A. has worked hard and contributed to the JCS community throughout their 3 years here. We are so excited to see what A accomplishes as they move on to their post-secondary adventures at UBC.
Skills Intermediate Hairstyling Regional Competition
Congratulating A and I for winning GOLD and SILVER medals at the Skills Intermediate Hairstyling Regional competition. These two have now earned a spot with the best of the best for provincials in Edmonton next month! All our competitors did amazing things and made JCS proud.

Alberta Health Services - Free Mindfulness for Anxiety Management Module
The purpose of this 5-minute module is to introduce parents and caregivers to mindfulness as a management tool for anxiety and stress management. Upon completion of this module, you will be able to:
- Understand the difference between stress and anxiety
- Have an emerging understanding about mindfulness and learn ways to incorporate mindfulness into everyday life
- Utilize mindfulness-based strategies to support your child with stress and anxiety management.

Mental Health Supports for youth through The Summit
Alberta Health Services’ The Summit is a new one-stop resource and support for Calgary youth struggling with mental health challenges. This latest support alternative opened in spring 2023 and is tailored to meet the mental health needs of all youth under 18 by giving them direct access to on-site assessment and therapy. Walk-in counselling services are available for anyone under 18 years of age and their families. Additionally, these walk-in services do not require a referral! The Summit also offers therapeutic support through a day hospital and community-based treatment.
