As we come to the end of 2024, and break for the winter holiday, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who help make JCS an amazing place to be. We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and most importantly, our students.
Parents, of course, are such a critical part of all we hope to accomplish, and I am grateful to you for masterfully doing what I know firsthand is the hardest, most rewarding and joyous job of all. Thank you for entrusting us with your most precious gift. I am grateful to our wonderful, talented, creative, inquisitive, optimistic, resourceful and resilient students. Often, they make us laugh, sometimes they make us cry, but always they make us think. Most of all, they make us better. In the spirit of this holiday season, I want to extend my thanks to all of you for everything that you do for our school. As we enjoy the upcoming break, it is my wish that each of you can embrace the cheer of the season and find the joy which comes with it.
All the best
Scott Glassford, Principal
Craven Cafe
The Craven Café will not have food service available on Monday, January 6. Please ensure that your students have lunch.
Staff Parking Lot
Unless students are required to access the disability parking, absolutely no dropping or picking up of students in the staff parking lot is allowed. Parents are encouraged to drop students off a block away from the school to avoid congestion in front of the school.
Information from the Student Success Centre
Every student at JCS is enrolled in the Student Success Centre (SSC) D2L shell. Lots of valuable information will be posted there. Students are encouraged to log in and keep up to date with the available information regarding post-secondary applications, university open houses, and scholarships. Students should also review the D2L monthly calendar where various upcoming post-secondary events will be posted.
Are You Ready to Graduate? On Thursday, December 5 during Raven Time, Grade 12 students completed an “Are You Ready to Graduate?” form. This form must be completed by all Grade 12 students and will be submitted to the Student Success Centre for review. If you have not yet filled out this form, you can pick one up in the Main Office and return it there once completed.
CBe-learn will open registration for Semester 2 online courses on Tuesday, January 7. Students who wish to take an online course in the second semester need to make an appointment to meet with their Student Advisor starting on January 7. Registration availability is based on first-come, first served.
The YMCA Tutoring Table Program is offering a free Math 30-1 and 30-2 Diploma Prep. It will run January 2, 3, and 10, 2025. Registration is now open, and students can either scan the QR code or click the link “enroll here” available on the Announcements page of the Student Success Centre D2L.
Diploma prep courses are offered in person or online for interested Grade 12 students who are writing diploma exams in January. View available courses, locations and costs at www.diplomaprep.com, www.renert.com/diploma-review.com or www.rtdlearning.com.
Semester 2 Course Changes – Since November, The Student Success Centre has been meeting with students who were requesting to make course changes for Semester 2. Moving forward, students will only be able to make requests to change their academic course level (eg. Math 20-1 to Math 20-2). We are not able to accommodate any further requests to change option courses. During the week of January 13, students will be able to drop-in to see their Student Advisor to request an academic course level change; therefore, appointments will not be necessary. Drop-in dates and times will be posted at the beginning of January.
