Information from the Student Success Centre
Every student at JCS is enrolled in the Student Success Centre (SSC) D2L shell. Lots of valuable information will be posted there. Students are encouraged to log in and keep up to date with the available information regarding post-secondary applications, university open houses and scholarships. Students should also review the monthly calendar where various upcoming post-secondary events will be posted.
Registration for 2024-2025
All students are encouraged to talk to their teachers and parents/guardians to make informed decisions regarding next year’s course requests. Each Grade 10 & 11 student will receive a copy of a 2024-25 Registration Form which needs to be filled out and completed indicating the courses the student is currently enrolled in this year as well as their course requests for next year. Completed forms are to be returned to their Period 2 teacher on Friday, February 9. The PowerSchool Registration Portal will be open from February 8 – February 22. Students who were absent on February 8 can pick up a blank Registration Form from the Main Office. If students have questions about next year’s course selections, the SSC will announce a date(s) and time(s) in the near future when they can come ask specific questions or if they require further clarification. At this time, the courses that students select in the PowerSchool Portal are only requests, they are not confirmed courses for next year.
Grade 10 students attended an assembly during Raven Time on Thursday, February 8th to receive information and guidance on registering for their next year courses in Grade 11.
Grade 11 students were led through a PowerPoint presentation by their Period 2 teacher during Raven Time on Thursday, February 8th regarding registration for their next year courses in Grade 12. Blank registration forms are available in the Main Office. Students must submit a completed form and select their courses in the PowerSchool Portal in order to ensure they have classes for next year. Information regarding Summer School will be available mid-April. Students can check the Student Success Centre D2L or the weekly Raven Post for registration information.
Fair Entry - Subsidy Application Process
Fair Entry is an application process for subsidized City of Calgary programs and services (such as bus passes or City recreation facilities). This process will assess eligible families in accessing multiple City programs with a single application. Just recently, High-Speed Low-Cost Internet and other telecom services have been added to the list of services available through Fair Entry. More information is available at Fair Entry Calgary. A Calgary MyID account is required to access these services and can be created here.
Mental Health Supports for Youth through The Summit
Alberta Health Services’ The Summit is a new one-stop resource and support for Calgary youth struggling with mental health challenges. This latest support alternative opened in spring 2023 and is tailored to meet the mental health needs of all youth under 18 by giving them direct access to on-site assessment and therapy. Walk-in counselling services are available for anyone under 18 years of age and their families. Additionally, these walk-in services do not require a referral! The Summit also offers therapeutic support through a day hospital and community-based treatment.
