Ramadan Mubarak
Wishing all JCS students and their families who observe Ramadan, a blessed Ramadan.
Dedicated space is provided for students who are observing the Holy Month of Ramadan to engage in prayer throughout the day, as well as an alternative environment during lunchtime. Ramadan Kareem.
Math 30-1/30-2 Diploma Exam Conflict with Eid al-Adha
Students who plan to celebrate Eid al-Adha on June 17 may write their Math 30-1 and Math 30-2 diploma exams at the alternate exam sitting on Monday, June 10, at 9:00am. This examination sitting is intended for those students who are unable to write on June 17 because they will be celebrating Eid al-Adha. All other students are scheduled to write the Math 30-1 and Math 30-2 diploma exams on Monday, June 17, at 9:00am.
Please inform your student’s mathematics teacher or Mr. Brown by Monday, March 11, that your student will be writing their Math 30-1 and Math 30-2 diploma exams on the alternate exam sitting day (Monday, June 10, at 9:00am).
Graduation Lists
We will be posting a preliminary graduation list in April (students will be listed by CBE ID number, not by their names). In order to be on the graduation list, students must:
- be on track to graduate (registered in all courses necessary for graduation). Here is a link to the requirements for a High School Diploma or Certificate of School Completion. Students who have questions about their requirements should make an appointment with their Student Advisor.
- be a student in good standing
- have paid the $57 graduation fee (can be paid through PowerSchool)
- Have completed the “Are You Ready to Graduate?” form
*If your student is not currently passing a graduation requirement course, they may be included on the graduation list if they have made an academic plan with their Student Advisor/Assistant Principal.
All students on the Graduation List will be eligible to cross the stage and will have their name listed in the graduation programme.
Mental Health for Youth

Join our AHS partners from the mental health literacy team and clarify terms and present evidence-based strategies to support youth in managing stress and anxious feelings. Learn when clinical assessment is needed and what treatment may involve. Gain information and strategies to boost your own mental health and support the young people in your life. Information from the Student Success Centre
Every student at JCS is enrolled in the Student Success Centre (SSC) D2L shell. Lots of valuable information will be posted there. Students are encouraged to log in and keep up to date with the available information regarding post-secondary applications, university open houses and scholarships. Students should also review the monthly calendar where various upcoming post-secondary events will be posted.
Registration for 2024-2025 - All current Grade 10 and 11 students should have entered their course requests for the 2024-2025 school year. If not, please pick up a blank form from the Main Office and return it with your requested courses for next year. This must be completed prior to Spring Break to ensure you have courses entered for next year.
Information regarding Summer School will be available mid-April. Students can check the Student Success Centre D2L or the weekly Raven Post for registration information.
A student recruiter from the U of C will be here over the lunch hour in the Upper Hub on Thursday, March 14. Students are welcome to drop by and ask questions.
EducationMatters’ 2023/2024 student award applications are now live.
Students are encouraged to sign up for one of the upcoming student award information sessions (Student Award Info Sessions - EducationMatters)
Students should apply for all awards through the online portal (https://applications.educationmatters.ca). The majority of the awards are applied for using the “EducationMatters 2023/2024 General Application Form”.
We will receive PDF's of the various award criteria shortly and they will be posted on the SSC D2L once received. In the meantime, all award criteria are available on our website (Student Awards - EducationMatters).
Transition Into Post-Secondary (TIPS) program for New Canadians
Is your student planning to attend post-secondary after graduating high school? Is their dream to attend university, college, or trades school? The TIPS program can help your student to learn how it works by pairing them with a current university student who will help with filling out post-secondary applications, learning about financing options, and preparing for a successful journey into post-secondary.

Texas Doughnuts
Get ready and start saving your money. This is going to be HUGE! Supersized Texas Doughnuts will be on sale on March 20 & 21 during lunchtime for $5. Money raised goes to support the activities of the JCS School Council.
Students on Spare
All students on spare are requested to be in the 3rd floor Learning Commons. Student ID with Spare stickers on them are required.
Students who have a part-time schedule, such as an AM or PM only schedule, are asked to be off campus when they do not have scheduled classes or an appointment with school personnel.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Conferences will take place at JCS:
- Thursday, March 21 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm
- Friday, March 22 from 9:00am – 1:00pm
Appointments can be booked through MyCBE starting 8:00 am Monday, March 11 until closing Monday, March 18 at 9:00 pm.
Graduation Baby Photos
If you would like your baby photo to be shown at the grad banquet in a slide show, here is the information about how to submit.
- Find a baby photo and an appropriate current photo of you - This can be your grad photo (please let us know if you want us to use the one on file)
- Change the name of the files to your FULL NAME and which photo it is (example: Last name, first name - baby photo)
- Send your pictures to: jcsbabyphotos@gmail.com with your FULL NAME in the subject line
- Photos must be submitted by April 22 in order to be in the slide show

Diploma Exams
Current JCS students who wish to rewrite a diploma exam or are presently enrolled in online Diploma level courses that wish to write the diploma exam at JCS, need to contact Mr. Brown by:

Alberta Health Services - Free Mindfulness for Anxiety Management Module
The purpose of this 5-minute module is to introduce parents and caregivers to mindfulness as a management tool for anxiety and stress management. Upon completion of this module you will be able to:
- Understand the difference between stress and anxiety
- Have an emerging understanding about mindfulness and learn possible ways to incorporate mindfulness into everyday life
- Utilize mindfulness-based strategies to support your child with stress and anxiety management.

CES offers free, online presentations for parents and child caregivers on a range of topics. Experts from Alberta Health Services and the Calgary community, in coordination with Alberta Childrens’ Hospital, provide credible information and best-practice strategies to support the development and mental health of a child or youth in your life. University of Calgary Free Course - Learn to prevent, detect and manage concussions.
Take a free, non-credit online course on concussion with UCalgary and Université Laval. The next course begins on March 11, 2024. The course material will include up-to-date content from the Amsterdam International Consensus Statement– the 6th International Conference on Concussion in Sport.
The course is for those who are interested in preventing, detecting and managing concussions. You can do the course on your own schedule, at your own pace, but you must wrap it up by the course end date of April 29, 2024.

Fair Entry - Subsidy Application Process
Fair Entry is an application process for subsidized City of Calgary programs and services (such as bus passes or City recreation facilities). This process will assess eligible families in accessing multiple City programs with a single application. Just recently, High-Speed Low-Cost Internet and other telecom services have been added to the list of services available through Fair Entry. More information is available at Fair Entry Calgary. A Calgary MyID account is required to access these services and can be created HERE .
Mental Health Supports for youth through The Summit
Alberta Health Services’ The Summit is a new one-stop resource and support for Calgary youth struggling with mental health challenges. This latest support alternative opened in spring 2023 and is tailored to meet the mental health needs of all youth under 18 by giving them direct access to on-site assessment and therapy. Walk-in counselling services are available for anyone under 18 years of age and their families. Additionally, these walk-in services do not require a referral! The Summit also offers therapeutic support through a day hospital and community-based treatment.
