Band Festival
We have some champions in our midst! The Alberta International Band Festival wrapped up on Tuesday of this week with the Honour Band Showcase Concert (6 of our JCS Band students were invited to perform alongside approximately 80 students from Calgary and area high schools) and Awards Gala. As many of you know, last week, our Grade 10 Band earned a Superior rating for their performance, and our Grade 11/12 Band scored Double Superior – earning them a Gold Award for their performance. This week, at the Awards Gala, our Grade 11/12 Concert Band was awarded Most Outstanding Senior High School Concert Band for the entire festival of over 108 bands and 9000 students! For this, they received the Robert Eklund Trophy and Robert Eklund was there to help them celebrate. We’ll get the trophy put up soon in our trophy showcase for all students to see—it’s a big one!

Information from the Student Success Centre
Every student at JCS is enrolled in the Student Success Centre (SSC) D2L shell. Lots of valuable information will be posted there. Students are encouraged to log in and keep up to date with the available information regarding post-secondary applications, university open houses and scholarships. Students should also review the monthly calendar where various upcoming post-secondary events will be posted.
Registration for 2024-2025
All current Grade 10 and 11 students have had a presentation regarding registering for next year’s courses. Both presentations are on the Student Success Centre D2L and they were also sent to families via Messenger. Students must submit a completed form to the Main Office and select their courses in MyCBE to ensure they have classes for next year. The MyCBE portal closes on March 1. If students have questions about next year’s course selections, the SSC will announce a date(s) and time(s) soon when they can ask specific questions or if they require further clarification. At this time, the courses that students select in MyCBE are only requests, they are not confirmed courses for next year.
Information regarding Summer School will be available mid-April. Students can check the Student Success Centre D2L or the weekly Raven Post for registration information.
A student recruiter from the U of C will be here over the lunch hour in the Upper Hub on Thursday, March 14. Students are welcome to drop by and ask questions.
