Students on Spare
All students who have a spare will be required to attend an information meeting in the Upper Hub (outside the main office) on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 for the first 30 minutes of their spare period. If your student has a spare, please encourage them to set a reminder so they don’t miss it!
Meet the Teacher - September 12
Meet the Teacher will be on September 12 from 6:15pm until 8:15pm. All students and parents are welcome. We will run through the daily schedule and allow families to ask questions about the various subjects. Please bring a copy of your student’s class schedule with you or ensure you have access to your MyCBE PowerSchool Account to help you navigate the evening. The following is the schedule for the evening:
6:30-6:40: Main Gym Introduction to High School
6:45-7:00: Period 1
7:05-7:20: Period 2
7:25-7:40: Period 3
7:45-8:00: Period 4
8:00-8:15: J Block or find who you want to speak with
Please remember that this is not a Parent/Teacher Conference and there will not be time for individual discussions about students. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be on October 24 and 25.
Dropping Students Off at School
When dropping off at school, please be mindful not to park in the bus loading zones on Seton Drive or in front of the school on 45th Street. Calgary Transit has informed us that they are often blocked from parking to load and unload passengers. In addition, please do not drop students off in the staff parking lots or the YMCA parking lot, as this causes traffic disruptions and unsafe conditions for pedestrians. Thank you for your help!
School Fees
School fees can be viewed and paid through the MyCBE PowerSchool portal. If you are unable to pay school fees, please access this CBE What if I Can't Afford to Pay School Fees? document for further information.
Please contact Linda Kowalchuk by email at llkowalchuk@cbe.ab.ca or call the school at 403-817-3600 Ext 2007 if you have further questions.
Student Parking Passes for 2024-25
Grade 11 and 12 students have priority for purchasing a JCS parking pass. An e-mail was sent to all grade 12s with the application. Students who submit a parking application will receive a confirmation email with further instructions. Any students who did not receive an email can contact Linda Kowalchuk. Grade 10 students will receive an email in mid-September inviting them to apply for a parking pass.
A parking fee appearing in the MYCBE account is confirmation that they will receive a pass. Once the online payment is complete, students will be issued a parking pass through the Business Office. Parking fees include GST, and are as follows:
Full Year (Sept to June) $50
Semester One (Sept to Jan) $25
Semester Two (Feb to June) $25
Information from the Student Success Centre
Every student at JCS is enrolled in the Student Success Centre (SSC) D2L shell. Lots of valuable information will be posted there. Students are encouraged to log in and keep up to date with the available information regarding post-secondary applications, university open houses, and scholarships. Students should also review the D2L monthly calendar where various upcoming post-secondary events will be posted.
Upcoming Post-Secondary Presentations in September
A student recruiter from various universities will be doing presentations for students. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about their various programs, campus life and admission requirements. All presentations will be held in the second floor Learning Commons.

JCS Blood Drive
Why donate? Blood and blood products are a critical part of everyday medical care including major surgeries, medical procedures, cancer treatments and managing diseases and disorders. As a blood donor you form a vital link in Canada's lifeline, helping many Canadians wake up healthy each day.
JCS is hosting a Blood Drive on Thursday, September 19, 2024. Transportation will be provided. Participants must be 17 years or older. For more information, contact Ms. Taylor in room 3308.
Cravens Café
Cravens Cafe would like to welcome back all students; we missed you! To all new students, we hope you enjoy your first few weeks of grade 10. We do our best to provide great food at low prices for everyone, please feel free to ask questions or make suggestions; our doors are open.
Craven's Cafe will be closed for the first two weeks of the semester. There will be no breakfast or lunch service until September 16, so arrange to bring lunch to school before that. Cravens Cafe will be offering breakfast service from 8:15 to 9:00am daily starting September 16.
Students and staff can pre-order and prepay for their lunches during breakfast service; please see a Craven's staff member for more information. Regular lunch service will also be available at the main café.
Cravens will be offering 3 volunteer spots per service day for non-culinary students who would like to volunteer during lunch service. Training is required for all students, including students who have previously volunteered (see Chef Kari for details). Students will be provided with a complimentary lunch for their service.
We offer Halal meats whenever possible, all chicken and ground beef products are Halal, as well as the pepperoni we use for our pizzas. We will do our best to ensure all menu items that are Halal are labelled as such. If there is any confusion, please ask a staff member. Please note, the chicken and beef in our soups is also Halal, but cannot be labelled as such because the stock used is not Halal.
