A Message From the YMCA Outreach Supervisor

Hello JCS families

I was so thankful to meet some of you at the Meet the Teacher evening.

I am the Outreach Supervisor at the Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton. I run a lunchtime and after school program for the High school students and young adults. I focus on connecting with the students, building relationships and earning trust in a fun inclusive space. Activities range from board games and card games to various art projects, a Lego club, Esports, as well as leadership programs 1-2 times a month where I will be doing financial literacy topics,  discussions on cyber safety, drugs and gangs- which would be done by Calgary youth link with Calgary Police service, resume writing, and more. If more students are interested in these, I will plan more for the upcoming year.

The first 3 weeks have been going really well. I have met many new students and am enjoying seeing them here at the YMCA. I love meeting new people, so please have your child pop over to say "hi". I am located inside the Family Center across from the Library. I love meeting the parents too. If you ever want to stop by please do so.

If and when the strike happens, the Family Center will be open to youth ages 12-17 from 10am-4pm for activities if your child needs a safe space to go.

Just a friendly reminder that drop off and pick is not permitted in the YMCA lot beside the school or in the bus zone. Please use the designated spots given by Joan Cardinal Schubert. Also, please remind your students to not vape or smoke inside the YMCA or within 7.5 meters from the doors.

I look forward to this next year with your students. Please feel free to email me or stop by with any questions or concerns.

Thank you

Crystal Smith (she/her)
